Finally got around to finishing the rebuild of the AX-15, double checked everything I could think of, and put it back together and up against the transfer case. Installed the shifter but only get 2nd 4th and reverse. No 1st, 3rd or 5th. Tried turning the shifter around 180 degrees (read that installing this backwards caused the same thing) but to no avail.
I’m going to tear it back down starting tomorrow, but wondered if there might be something simple I can look for.
Figured it out. When I put the shift lever shaft in through the rear housing, and through the shift lever housing, I put it in backwards. Apparently the threaded hole on the shaft is off set in one direction. If you put it in backwards, the housing sits too far forward and won’t allow the shift lever to move freely. Spun it around and all is good.
